The City of Chandler, Arizona was founded in 1912 and incorporated in 1920. Since its early beginnings, Chandler is a vibrant, highly diverse community, and is a prominent suburb of Phoenix. Located southeast of Phoenix, It is bordered to the north and west by Tempe, to the north by Mesa, to the west by Ahwatukee, a part of Phoenix, to the south by the Gila River Indian Community, and to the east by Gilbert.
The population is 243,694 according to the Census in 2013. Known as the little Silicone Valley, it also has satellite locations for many technology companies, including Intel, Microchip and Orbital Sciences Corp.
